War? What War?
The Democrats just don't get it. They would rather pretend that there is no war than deal with reality. Here's some lines from Hugh Hewitt's latest book, If It's Not Close, They Can't Cheat:
"The Democratic Party has lost its collective will and collective ability to take the national security of the United States seriously. This is not treasonous or unpatriotic behavior, just selfish and stupid behavior. But the irresponsibility of the Democratic Party extends to every major issue affecting national security, including the seize and use of American military, the deployment of national missile defense, the exploration for new reserves of oil, and the conduct of domestic surveillance against foreigners.
To repeat: the carelessness with which the Democrats approach national security issues does not make them unpatriotic anymore then a seventh grader cheering for the latest pop star and professing indifference to the conduct of the war on terrorism makes that youngster unpatriotic. The great majority of Democrats are wrong, not rotten, but their errors on these crucial issues are so huge and their indifference to the threats surrounding the U.S. so pronounced that they cannot be trusted with the defense of the U.S. for years and probably decades to come."
This is from chapter 1 entitled, "I Don't Like You Because You're Going to Get Me Killed." If there was any question as to the truth of Hewitt's claims, then today made it completely clear. By choosing John Edwards for VP the DNC has proven that they don't care about the security of America. Here's someone who has experience as a plaintiff lawyer and has served one term in the Senate- absolutely no experience with security issues. Kerry's flip-flopped on the issues so who knows where he's at, Edwards has a position but not one marked by the experience to backup and fulfill his position. Compared to the incredible record of Dick Cheney, it's a no brainer. Cheney doesn't have the looks, but he's got the know-how. If it came to it, there's no way I would want some guy running the country simply because of his good looks, I want a guy with experience.
Kerry agrees. When Kerry and Edwards were opposing each other, Kerry had this to say: "I think the American people want an experienced hand at the helm of state." "This is not the time for on-the-job training in the White House on national security issues."
So why then did Kerry pick Edwards? Kerry is in no way charming, Edwards has looks and youth. He's gotta make up for what he's missing. The DNC , and particularly the Johns, don't want to face reality. I sure hope America will when November rolls around.
