A Higher Criticism...

George W. Bush: a muddy morality (Warning: this is a repulsive liberal article)

For those of you who don't know, Peter Singer is one of the best known and most read moral ethicists in America, if not the world. One of his books, Practical Eithcs, is read throughout the country in entry level ethics classes. Singer is one of the more consistent ethicists out there. He recognizes that if the fetus has no value, than neither does a newborn child. To be consistent in Singer's world, humans and animals have the same meaning and value. So of course he doesn't like anyone who would restrict abortion, stem-cell research, etc.
Singer's latest book is an analysis of the morality of Georger W. Bush. Entitled, The President of Good and Evil: The Ethics of George W. Bush, his book goes after Bush for what he claims is inconsistent logic and morality. Why did he write it? Judging from the publication date (March 2004), he doesn't want Bush to be re-elected. Since I haven't yet read the book, I can't do much of a direct critique of it. I can, however, defend the President in some sense.
I'm certain that most people did not see Bush's speech on why he was against embryonic stem-cell reasearch (ESCR) thanks to the liberal media. That was the side of Bush they don't want you to see. He presented a well thought-out, logical, scientific, and persuasive case against ESCR. I read a liberal's comments on the speech and he was thoroughly impressed. Bush sounded like he knew what he was talking about. Contrary to what they show us on television, Bush has reasons for what he does and what he believes. Just because the media doesn't tell you doesn't mean it ain't so. I would argue that most (no one is perfect) of Bush's actions stem from Biblical values. Most arguments against the morality of Bush are therefore attacks on Biblical values. My guess is that, though I could be wrong, this is what Singer's book amounts to. This is something Christians should not take lightly, but probably will.
By the way, Bush got his B.A. at Yale and his M.B.A. at Harvard. That doesn't really sound like someone who can't think.
